Indonesia’s coffee production is expected to climb sharply in the 2025/26 market year, reaching 12.5 million 60-kilogram bags, up 18% from the previous season, as robusta output rebounds from earlier weather disruptions. The increase is driven largely by improved growing conditions and stronger farm-level recovery across key producing regions, according to the latest report from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS).
Robusta is projected to account for around 11 million bags, with the strongest gains seen in southern Sumatra, including Lampung, Bengkulu, and South Sumatra. Better rainfall patterns, more consistent pruning, and higher input use have helped lift yields faster than initially expected. Indonesia continues to play a critical role in the global market, representing roughly 5% of world green coffee trade and ranking as Europe’s second-largest robusta supplier.
Exports are also accelerating. Green coffee shipments are forecast to reach 7.8 million bags, up 27% year-on-year, supported by strong global demand for robusta and a weaker rupiah that has enhanced export competitiveness. Shipments between April and August have already surged significantly compared to the same period last year.
Globally, these revisions are expected to push coffee production to a record 178.8 million bags, with Indonesia and Ethiopia posting record harvests even as output declines in Brazil and Colombia. While U.S. imports from Indonesia softened temporarily following tariff changes, demand is expected to normalize, alongside continued strength from key markets across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.
